Our schools are desperately short of children’s books for reading time and story time. We want to fuel the imaginations of our pupils with classic stories while improving their reading and comprehension with a wide variety of topics, both fiction and non-fiction, from kindergarten up to Grade VI.

One of my personal favourites that I read with the kindergarten in Cancabalong at the start of each school year is The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. They love the fun of the voices and actions and are presented with the soft toy which they must care for during the school year, being extra careful that it doesn’t escape and eat all the cabbages in Cancabalong, Mantolongon, Dalaguete, and the whole of Cebu.
