CANCABALONG ES ROOF REPAIRS COMPLETED AFTER SEVERE TROPICAL STORM KRISTINE

The Philippines has been impacted by 16 storms so far in 2024 leaving a trail of death and destruction in some areas. Luckily the Cebu / Visayas area has been protected from most of these as they tracked further north over Luzon and on to Vietnam, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.

In late October, the state weather bureau hoisted Storm Signals in several areas in Cebu as Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (international name Trami) moved closer. While spared the sort of damage we experienced during Typhoon Odette back in December 2021, the strong winds and rain battered the Visayas, and in Dalaguete we sustained damage to the roof our our school in Cancabalong.

With thanks to a generous donation to our school funds we were able to quickly set about assessing the damage and purchase materials locally to carry out the needed repairs in November. The school roof has now been revamped with new materials and waterproofed against the elements to protect our students and teachers.

Severe Tropical Storm Trami, known in the Philippines as Severe Tropical Storm Kristine, was a very large, devastating, and deadly tropical cyclone that wreaked havoc across the Philippines and later impacted Vietnam, Thailand, and China in October 2024. It was also the first tropical cyclone in a series to impact the Philippines in late 2024, before Typhoons Kong-rey, Yinxing, Toraji, Usagi, and Man-yi.
